Go To Makeup Tutorial!

Hi Everyone

So today I am bringing a totally different tutorial video to you, but one that I have been asked for many times now, and here it!

This is the first, in a new series of make-up tutorials I have created. Beauty, alongside art, is one of my biggest passions and I wanted to share that with all of you.

For the first video I decided to film my Go To look. This is a look that I feel very comfortable wearing, and is also quite simple yet flawless.

All of the products I use are shown throughout the video, and are also listed in the description box.

I really hope you enjoy it, and as it is my first beauty video I would love to hear your feedback on things you liked, didn't like, areas I can improve, other things you would like to see etc, so if you have the time, please leave me a comment.

I was very nervous, as I'm sure you can tell, and I am aware that I need to adjust my mic and stop dipping my head when doing my eyes, I will sort this out for next time, but hey it's a good learning curve :)

So if you do like it, please don't forget to give it a thumbs up and subscribe.

Thanks for watching :)

Defining my style

After looking through all of my projects I have completed,  and trying to find 3 that best defines me and "my style" I have decided that I really actually do have a style now. I would describe this style as sophisticated grunge. I love to have steampunk/gothic elements in my pieces but I also love simplicity and femininity.

So here are the pieces that I think best define me as a mixed media artist.

It's hard to pick just 3 but I feel this gives a good representation of me and my vision.

Thanks for looking :)

Story Competition

A bit of a different post from me today, but I am very proud to say, that I have been chosen as one of four finalists in a children's story competition run by Halesowen College.

I had a fabulous day reading my story to a class from Olive Hill primary school, and thoroughly enjoyed watching them paint pictures for the story. They were a very talented bunch, and produced some beautiful artwork.

There is an excerpt of my story "No Children For Tea" below.

No Children For Tea is a picture book that tells the story of cranky Mrs Witch who is thoroughly bored of the foods that she eats, so much so that she decides she wants to eat a child for tea. As she hatches a plan to snare a child, her faithful companion cat desperately tries to talk her out of it. A surprise knock at the door has Mrs Witch thinking its her lucky day, but the boy who arrives has a few tricks up his own sleeve.

In a rickety cottage, down by the sea,
lived Witch and her Cat, happy as can be.
Mrs Witch loved to eat, she cooked night and day.
Cat would help her and hunt for their prey.
One day Mrs Witch said out of the blue
"Cat I don't know about you, but I'm bored of stew!"
"I'm fed up of frogs legs and mushrooms and snails,
I'm tired of broccoli and wiggly mouse tails.
I'm sick of spaghetti and soup made of pea
I've decided now Cat, I want children for tea!"
Cat leapt from his bed, quicker than lightening
"You can't eat children for tea, that is frightening!”
"Why not?" asked the Witch "What's wrong with that?"
"It's not right" sighed Cat "you silly old bat!"
"Huh" shrugged the Witch "I don't know what's wrong with you,
you would love a bit of child chopped up in your stew."
"No way “said Cat "I don't fancy that.
How about I catch you a big juicy rat?"
"No" cried the Witch "I've told you once Cat,
I'm having children for tea and that is that.
I will roast them with parsnips and cover them in gravy,
with some salt and pepper for seasoning maybe."
"No" shrieked the Cat "why can't you see?
you just cannot eat children for tea."

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet. The full story will be available soon.

"The Moon" Journal 52 week 3 and tutorial

Here is my Journal page for Journal 52, week 4's prompts "The Moon"/ "Lunacy".

I love Tarot cards, and love to collect beautifully illustrated sets, so I knew I wanted to use tarot in some way for this prompt.

In Tarot The Moon causes tricks of the light and is about deceptions and disillusionment, amongst other things, so I combined both prompts on this page as I wanted to show  that "only fools dance under the moon."

I hope you like it. There is also a quick tutorial on how I created the background for this page.

Shadow box

After spending weeks of working on this project and making sure all the pieces and the products were just perfect I have finally finished and I am delighted with how it turned out.

This is a very special, sentimental project to me. The box houses some very treasured little trinkets, so it was vital that everything was just right and that I took my time to make sure it ended up how I envisioned it.

I hope you like it :)

Embossed Art Journal Page Backgorund and Journal 52 week 3 page.

So today I am back with a video on how I created the embossed background for my Journal 52 week 3 page.

The prompt for this week was "Your favourite David Bowie lyrics" and I couldn't wait to get started with this one! I chose the song "Within You" from the film Labyrinth. I wanted to add a few certain elements to the page, from the film, that really stand out for me, such as the clock and the feathers and the glass gems.

So here is the finished page.

And here is the video tutorial on how I made the embossed background.

Dusty Attic Jan 2016 Entry

Here is my entry for the Dusty Attic mood board for Jan 2016 and a quick little step by step.

Here is the mood board featured on the Dusty Attic blog page.

I decided to go with an off the page project for this one and do a reverse canvas, and I had so much fun making it. The colours in the mood board made me long for the spring and so I decided to incorporate that into my canvas.

I started off using an A5 canvas and giving it 2 coats of Gesso. Once dry I covered the canvas with a piece of paper with a tiny flower pattern.

Next I tinted some gesso to make it a pale teal and gave the paper a light coat of this mix. I then           mixed some white crakle paste with a pink mica spray and applied this over the tinted gesso, thick in some places, thinner in others. While this was drying I cut a piece of wood effect paper to go at the back of the canvas.

I decided which Dusty Attic chipboard pieces I wanted to use and gave them a coat of gesso. For this project I used the following chipboards.

Foliage 2
Foliage 5
Ornate pendants 1
Bird of paradise

I then painted the pieces in metallic paints and distressed the edges of them with an ink pad.

I then took an MDF birdhouse and gave it a crackled paint effect, when it was dry I glued it to the back of the canvas. I added some florists moss and some seed beads and then started to add the chipboard pieces.

I then started to build up the canvas using paper flowers and the chipboard pieces until I was happy with the look of it. I finished off by adding some self adhesive gems in places and some feathers and a diamanté spray to the birds tail.

And ..... ta da!

Thank you for looking
